The Role Of Oral Care In Swollen Gums Prevention

Oral care is the practice of keeping the mouth clean and healthy to prevent cavities, gingivitis, bad breath, periodontitis and other form of dental disorders. Oral hygiene does not only consist of personal or home care it also includes professional care from your dental care professional.

Digestion starts in the mouth and according to research clean and healthy mouth prevents aspiration pneumonia, heart attack, stroke, swollen gums and gum disease. Reduced flow of saliva results into less washing away of bacteria, saliva is the natural defense of the mouth against bacteria. Basic oral care involves brushing and flossing the teeth regularly, seeing your dental care professional fro regular check ups and cleanings, eating  healthy and nutrient- rich foods and avoiding bad habits that includes smoking and excessive intake of alcohol. Oral care is important to prevent tooth decay and periodontal or gum disease that may result into pocket formation, tooth loose and eventually tooth loss.
